Environment

Protecting the environment is a core aspect of our business.

Environmental protection is a strategic pillar of our organization and service portfolio. By extending the engine life cycle and delivering best-in-class on-wing performance, SR Technics contributes to the optimized use of resources for its customers and limits the environmental impact of airline operations.

In everyday business, SR Technics is committed to an environmental-friendly operation and efficient use of resources. For applying these industry-leading standards, SR Technics Switzerland is certified according to ISO 14001 (Environmental Management) since 2011.

The following highlights few of the company’s environmental commitments:

  • Climate Impact: Reduce CO2 emissions by 15% by 2025 from 2019 levels (Scope 1 and 2). We are currently in the process of developing a Net Zero commitment and a decarbonization roadmap which will also consider carbon emissions from our supply chain (Scope 3).

  • Circular Economy/Waste: Continuously introducing new repair capabilities to avoid scrap and promoting the re-use of engine parts. Generated waste is directed either to recycling or to combusting through waste-to-energy, scrap material from aircrafts and engines is directed to a specific recycling process to facilitate its reuse in the aviation industry.

  • Hazardous substances: Reducing and phasing out substances targeted by REACH and similar regulations. In addition, the company applies strict workplace rules and processes to ensure any hazard is suitably controlled or replaced by more environmental-friendly alternatives whenever possible.

  • Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF):Supporting research on SAF, the development of an efficient ecosystem to scale the use of SAF in Switzerland and the implementation of related regulations.

In addition, SR Technics supports environment-focused collaboration with research institutions, aviation authorities and other stakeholder. For example, our engine test cell and dedicated engineers facilitated the drafting of new global emission standards (ICAO) for various engine types as well as aviation-related climate research. These now 10+ years of contributions of SR Technics were awarded with a Certificate of Excellence from the Federal Office for Civil Aviation (FOCA) of Switzerland.

SR Technics’ environmental action is also directed towards its employees. For example, the company subsidizes public transport for its Swiss-based employees.

In 2021, the company created an interdisciplinary Environmental Working Group to draft new environmental measures and ensure their effective implementation.
